Based on the Android operating system, Samsung One UI is the best ever custom skin among all the OEMs. From the Android 9-based One UI 1 to the latest Android 11-based One UI 3, the Korean tech giant introduced tons of new changes, features, and improvements with every iteration of the One UI.
Back in December 2020, the company has officially launched the third major generation of One UI – One UI 3. The One UI 3 is based on Google’s Android 11 (the eleventh major generation of the Android operating system). With this version, Samsung has totally modified the user interface and added several iconic functions.
At the same time, Samsung started releasing the stable Android 11-based One UI 3.0 software update for the Galaxy S20 series smartphones, as promised. After the S20 phones, the company delivered the major Android upgrade to every single flagship and numerous mid-range smartphones. Meanwhile, a large group of phones/tablets is waiting to get the Android 11 update.
Like every year, the South Korean tech giant unveiled the new Galaxy S series smartphones on January 14, 2021. The Galaxy S21 lineup exclusively comes pre-installed with Android 11-based One UI 3.1, a minor upgraded version of the One UI 3.0. The One UI 3.1 brings several new features, minor UI changes over the One UI 3.0 version.

By taking a look at the history of One UIs, the OEM will also introduce another iteration of One UI 3 that will be the One UI 3.5. The One UI 3.5 will also be based on Android 11 and expected to exclusively come pre-installed with the upcoming Galaxy Note of Galaxy Fold smartphone. Google Android 12: Schedule
Google released the first Android 12 developer preview for Pixel phones on February 19, 2021. At the same time, the OEM published the schedule for the different developer previews, beta releases, and final releases. According to Google, it will deliver three developer previews, four public beta updates, while the stable release date is still unconfirmed.
Google Android 12: Features
Google will present several useful features with the twelfth major generation of Android OS. However, the Android 12 developer preview reveals that this version has a modified user interface, new gamepad vibration settings, restricted network mode, Wi-Fi password sharing through Nearby Share, app hibernation, and more.
Status bar indicator for ongoing calls [June 16, 2021]
Google released the Android 12 Beta 2 with several new privacy features, however, an Android developer discovered a small improvement hidden in the Android 12 code. What about One UI 4.0?
As Google has recently released the first Android 12 developer preview, every Samsung fan knows, the next generation of One UI will be called One UI 4.0. However, this iteration of One UI will be based on the Android 12 operating system. We can expect, just after the stable release of the Android 12, Samsung will announce the One UI 4.0 around September/October this year.
Samsung One UI 4.0: Release Date
The stable Android 12 may be launched in September 2021 for Google Pixels. Following this, Samsung will begin the One UI 4.0 beta program for developers. Besides, the Galaxy S21 flagships will be the first to be invited for the One UI 4.0 beta activity later this year. Moreover, the company may start delivering the stable One UI 4.0 to these phones from November/December this year.

Report suggests that Samsung is internally testing the latest Android and One UI version for Galaxy devices as a Reddit user posted a video of Galaxy phone running Android 12-based One UI 4.0 in action.
The leaked video suggests that Samsung is reportedly using the radical design changes of the Android 12 for Galaxy devices. However, the device’s traditional quick panel shortcuts such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Data, Hotspot, and Flight Mode have been replaced with a new “Network & Internet” section.
