Samsung will also ship the Galaxy S21 FE with 8GB RAM

Published

on

At the next Unpacked event, Samsung could launch its new Fan Edition smartphone alongside the next-generation folding phones. It is reported that the Galaxy S21 FE will be unveiled on August 19, while the company has not yet confirmed anything about it.

Previously, the upcoming Galaxy S21 FE had appeared on Geekbench, which revealed it equips Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 chipset. Now, a fresh benchmark listing confirms that the Korean tech giant will ship this smartphone in two RAM variants.

According to the latest info, a new Galaxy S21 FE model equipped with 8GB RAM has been spotted on Geekbench. At the same time, the listing again confirmed that it’s powered by Snapdragon 888 (lahaina) processor and runs the last year’s Android 11.

Apart from this, the recently benchmarked Galaxy S21 FE scored 592 points in Geekbench 5.4.1’s single-core CPU test and 2,610 points in the multi-core CPU test. This early existence of the upcoming Fan Edition indicates that it could not come with the One UI 3.5, while the S20 FE ships One UI 2.5 out of the box.

Galaxy S21 FE Specs

Just recently, a popular tipster leaked high-quality 3D renders of the Galaxy S21 FE in four different color variants: Black, White, Olive Green, and Purple. Unlike the Galaxy S21, the upcoming S21 FE will feature less premium design and a plastic camera module instead of metal.

Aside from this, Korean media revealed that the Galaxy S21 FE will cost around $100 less than the Galaxy S20 FE. As reported, the S21 FE could be priced between 700,000 to 800,000 won ($620 – $720), while its predecessor was launched last year with a price tag of 899,900 won ($810).

Flagship phones to get more pricey as Samsung hikes camera sensor prices

Published

on

Camera-centric flagship smartphones could be expensive as Samsung has increased the price of ISOCELL image sensors. As camera sensors are one of the most expensive parts, it could increase the price of 2024 flagships.

While companies are working hard to improve the smartphone camera experience, flagship models with cameras as their core selling point are likely to become more expensive. The main reason is that Samsung has increased the price of its components.

The smartphone industry has slowed down over the past few years, leaving manufacturers involved in component production with excess inventory. Samsung is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of CMOS sensors, which are used in its own phones and those of other brands.

As the smartphone market slowly grows, Samsung has reportedly sent notices to phone manufacturers to increase the price of its imaging sensors by 25%. The new prices may take effect in early 2024. Samsung’s increase in the price of imaging sensors will mainly affect sensors of 32 million pixels and above.

This could force smartphone manufacturers to increase the cost of high-end smartphones. Meanwhile, Samsung’s rivals in the field, Sony and OmniVision, have yet to announce price increases.
