Samsung to launch ‘Dreamground’ as a new AR service for smartphones
Starting May 2021, Samsung filed a trademark for the name ‘Dreamground’ with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This new trademark is categorized as Class 9, 38, and 41, plus the description suggests that Dreamground could be a new AR service for smartphones.
It is expected that the Dreamground may be related to the AR Zone, which was launched last year and comes pre-installed with every flagship and select mid-range Galaxy smartphones. Samsung’s AR Zone offers various AR games and apps, so the Dreamground could be an extensive variant of this.
It’s worth noting that the South Korean tech giant surprisingly discontinued the PlayGalaxy Link service last year. The game streaming service was allowed users to stream video games from their computer to their Galaxy smartphone. While it still remains a mystery why Samsung stopped this service.
With this new trademark application, we can surely expect that Samsung is developing Dreamground, a new service for mobile devices to stream AR and VR game software. However, mobile gaming has become very popular in recent years as our smartphones featuring powerful processors, bigger batteries, huge memory, excellent graphics, and more.
At the same time, AR, better known as Augmented Reality also presents a lot of new possibilities, for both entertainment and gaming purposes. It is said that Samsung will soon create a new AR service – Dreamground, and could launch it alongside the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 3 or Galaxy Z Fold 3 flagships in July this year.
