Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra to feature groundbreaking zoom camera tech

Starting this year, Samsung introduced its new Galaxy S21 flagship series, which includes the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. Like the previous year, the top tier of this lineup, the Galaxy S21 Ultra features the most powerful camera capabilities such as a 108MP main camera, two telephoto sensors, and an ultrawide angle camera.

As the Galaxy S series is Samsung’s camera focussed smartphone segment, the next year’s flagships will surely come with more improved and advanced imaging functionalities. It is said that the company will introduce the Galaxy S22 series next year, which will be the successor to the recently launched Galaxy S21 series.

We are far away from the launch of Galaxy S22 phones, but the leaks and rumors have been already surfacing online revealing the expected future technologies that will be implemented in these models. According to the latest, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be equipped with an improved periscope camera with continuous zoom.

Furthermore, the S22 Ultra is expected to use a cropped image from the main camera or use a separate intermediary zoom lens before the periscope camera kicks in. This results in poor image quality at non-native zoom levels. Tipster IceUniverse further revealed that Samsung Electromechanics and Samsung LSI have developed the continuous zoom periscope solution, which could be used in the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The lenses implemented inside the alleged periscope camera can move freely (from 3x to 10x) to offer perfect optical sharpness and details at all magnification levels, just like the digital and DSLR cameras. It’s noteworthy that the Sony Xperia 1 III also features a similar periscope zoom camera but it has only two magnification levels (3x and 4.4x).

However, smartphone owners are waiting for the under-display camera phone and it looks like Samsung will fulfill their expectations as the Galaxy S22 Ultra could feature an under-display selfie camera. Moreover, it could be powered by the Exynos 2200 chipset with AMD Radeon Mobile GPU.

Last but not least, if Samsung will introduce the Galaxy S22 series/Ultra with mighty camera tech, a flagship processor with AMD GPU, under-display camera, it will become the most powerful mobile phone (s). As of now, we suggest you take this info as a pinch of salt, and we’ll keep you posted on every development of this story.
