Samsung to leave the smartphone’ camera megapixel numbers race
Samsung is one of those smartphone OEMs that used to believe in quality rather than quantity. But, the recent scenario just turned the tables towards the big camera numbers in terms of ‘megapixels’.
For example, it recently launched the Galaxy S21 Ultra which has a huge 108MP sensor including over-the-top features like the 30X ‘Space Zoom’. This approach of Samsung sometimes feels ridiculous as it is not practically usable, as per the current conditions.
Also, the big sensor sometimes stuck while focusing on the object which we already saw in the previous flagship, Galaxy S20 Ultra. After rolling out many updates, this issue still presents in some quantity in this premium device.
But according to Samsung insider Ice Universe, the Korean tech giant might be getting tons of feedback regarding this, which makes the company, rethink this strategy. In a simpler way, the company could be moving back to the justified camera numbers without losing the camera quality, just like Google used to do with its Pixel phones.
Is Samsung working on this approach via the ISOCELL GN2 sensor?
Well, it’s quite early to say something but looking at the ISOCELL GN2 details, Samsung will somehow apply this new approach. It is because the newly launched sensor has a 50MP resolution, which is pretty less in numbers than the 108MP of the S21 Ultra.
In addition, Samsung is advertising this new sensor with a lot of promotional activities by highlighting its specs in ‘Bold’, even it is shipped to other smartphone OEMs like Xiaomi ( MI 11 Ultra). Therefore, it can be assumed that the company definitely planning something good which will change the tradition of big numbers.
