One of the popular market analysis firms, Canalys has recently released a report, which reveals that in the fourth quarter of 2020, TWS headsets (true wireless) and smart wearables have become important ancillary equipment for smartphones.

The report shows that two market segments – smart personal audio and wearable band devices in the consumer Internet of Things stood the test of 2020 to reach new heights. Moreover, personal smart audio devices grew by 20% to 432 million units while wearable band devices rose by 10% to 185 million units.

Established suppliers from traditional audio players to smart device suppliers such as Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi have experienced strong growth in 2020, but as they strive to stand out in the increasingly homogeneous audio field, they are facing more and more challenges.

Canalys researchers also pointed out that driven by strong consumer demand and strategic shifts in supplier ecosystems, TWS headsets (true wireless) and wearable watches (including basic watches and smartwatches) have emerged as the two dominant categories, Accounting for more than half of the shipments in their respective market segments.

On the other hand, the wearable wristband market will begin to significantly shift towards wearable watches by the end of 2020. Furthermore, Canalys predicts that personal smart audio will increase by 15.6% to 500 million units, and wearable wristband devices are expected to increase by 10.2% to 204 million units.
