Samsung and SK Telecom one step closer to 5G SA commercialization in Korea
Samsung Electronics and SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) have announced that they have successfully completed Korea’s first interoperability assessment between the 5G standalone (SA) core and other commercial network systems via the 5G network. This successful outcome brings the two companies one step closer to 5G SA commercialization.
Samsung Electronics and SK Telecom jointly developed, the 5G SI Core supports technologies including network slicing and function modulation based on 3GP standards, as well as additional functions used by operators from LTE, including billing and subscriber management.

The two companies have implemented a number of cutting-edge technologies in the 5G SI core, which are used for interoperability. Technologies include data-parallel processing technology that together handles QoS and transmission control.

Once 5G SA is commercialized, data processing capacity will triple, allowing effective control to support large-scale data traffic. The 5G SA system is highly optimized for the next generation of emerging services such as autonomous driving, smart factory, smart form, and AR / VR.
For the past five years, the two companies have been collaborating on the development of LTE and 5G, eventually leading to this successful 5G SI core interoperability test. Notably, a leaked promo shows off the control center of the Galaxy S23 FE, which mentions October 4 as the date. This means the company is preparing to hold its FE products launch on the same date as Google’s Made by Google event for Pixel 8 series.
